Post-Storm Damage Documentation for Insurance

After a storm, documentation matters. We provide a structured, photo-rich condition report to help you communicate clearly with your insurer, marina, and repair providers.

What This Service Is

This service is a post-storm, dockside documentation visit focused on capturing clear evidence of your boat’s condition and any visible damage. You receive a time-stamped photo set and summary report you can share with your insurance adjuster and repair providers.

What This Service Is Not

This is not a marine survey, appraisal, or engineering analysis. If your insurer requires a certified damage survey, we can help you coordinate with a qualified marine surveyor after documentation is completed.

What’s Included

  • Safety-first access check: assess dock hazards and access restrictions before boarding (if boarding is requested/allowed)
  • Exterior documentation: wide shots + closeups of hull, topsides, rails, rig (sailboats), deck hardware, canvas damage
  • Interior documentation (if access allows): water intrusion signs, cabinetry/soles, soft goods, electronics areas
  • Mechanical & electrical notes (observational): shore power status cues, obvious heat damage, visible corrosion/waterline indicators
  • Inventory notes: missing or displaced equipment you identify (dinghy, electronics, canvas, dock gear)
  • Time-stamped report: “urgent / soon / monitor” findings with photos organized for easy sharing

Optional Add-Ons

  • Temporary risk-reduction steps: re-tie lines, adjust fenders, remove a loose hazard (where safe and authorized)
  • Vendor coordination: help connect you to marina staff / yard / mechanic, and document the handoff
  • Second follow-up visit: after debris removal or water recedes, to capture anything newly visible

When to Request This

  • Immediately after a named storm or severe weather event (once the marina is accessible and safe)
  • When a neighbor reports a concern (lines loose, listing, unusual waterline)
  • Before making major temporary repairs—so documentation is captured first

Service Area

Clear Lake, Kemah, Galveston Bay, and nearby Gulf Coast marinas. See Locations.

FAQs

Will this help with an insurance claim?
You’ll receive a clear, organized set of photos and notes. Insurers typically want prompt reporting and clear documentation. We focus on capturing evidence in a format that’s easy to share.

Should I start repairs before documentation?
In many cases, you should document damage first. If emergency steps are needed to prevent further loss, do what’s necessary—then document. We can help you capture “before” and “after” photos when timing is tight.

Do you work directly with my insurance company?
We can provide documentation you share with your adjuster. We can also join calls or clarify the report contents if requested. Claim decisions are made by your insurer.

What if the marina is closed?
We won’t bypass closures or enter unsafe areas. Once access is restored, we can schedule documentation quickly.

Can you also do hurricane prep?
Yes—see Hurricane Prep / Storm Checks.
